So you've come to terms with the fact that you need an internet presence for your business.   Yellow pages, newspaper, and radio ads are simply not producing the results they once did as the internet rapidly increases in popularity. .  So continuing with the traditional methods of advertising is somewhat akin to opening a buggy whip store. Not likely to succeed in these times.

It can be pretty scary to set up your first web design.   But it's well worth it!  If you build a properly optimized website your business will get found in Google and you will get new customers. The fact is that this stuff really works!

The expenses you'll pay upfront will be a web designer, domain name registration, and a web hosting account.   But it doesn't end there.  Your new website will need to be properly promoted and optimized for the search engines.  These services will likely mean hiring a professional.

Can this really be done at an affordable rate?   Ok...so first...let's start with some networking.   Chances are that you know other business owners who have a website.  They'll be happy to tell you who did their site, and if they'd recommend them.   It's possible that you might save some money as a referral customer.

There are lots of freelance designers online.   Just search "freelance web designer" in Google. These small independents would be happy to build a great web design for you at a much reduced rate from the street price. If you're the adventureous type, you might want to build your own website with one of the easy build platforms like WordPress.   With these platforms you won't have to learn any html code but there will still be a learning curve.   I normally don't recommend a do it yourself web design for business owners but if you're willing to learn, and put in some time, it can be done.
