World of Warcraft Warlock Guide – Newbie Tips
This WoW warlock guide will explain to you the general pros and cons of playing warlocks. Warlocks are masters of the black arts with the ability to control demons, fire, and shadows. They are skilled necromancers that deal in misery and torment. They can inflict massive spell damage from a distance but are almost never in the thick of things because of their poor armor rating. Many of a warlock’s spells use soul shards which have to be collected from slain mobs. The warlock class is easy to level up in a hurry due to the fact that they’re very self sufficient when soloing. They are usually among the best damage dispensing classes when in a party.
This class is an option that is available only to the Gnome, Orc, Blood Elf, Undead, and Human races. The single armor type a warlock can use is of the cloth variety. As far as weapons go, warlocks are limited to using only daggers, staves, swords and wands.
There are several demonic minions a warlock can summon including the Doomguard, Felguard, Felhunter, Imp, Infernal, Succubus, and Voidwalker. Each minion has their place with different advantages and disadvantages. Warlocks boast a wide variety of magic spells at their command including DoT’s, direct damage spells (DD’s), and many utility spells. They’re able to use soul shards to conjure a variety of items and to resurrect fallen comrades. They also have some limited self healing power via drain life, and some crowd control talents ,too. Warlocks can also acquire mounts at a much lower cost than most other classes because they are quest rewards summoned via spells and not purchased directly.
The Affliction talent tree relies heavily on curses, damage over time spells, and drains. This talent tree is good for boss fights, raiding, and farming. This is commonly acknowledged as the best leveling spec for the warlock class.
The Demonology specialization focuses mainly on spells and bonuses for your demonic minions that make them robust and more powerful. For PvP, this is a an excellent talent tree. For power leveling, it’s a close second to Affliction. This talent tree can be utilized at early levels to make up for a lack of decent spell damage loot.
The Destruction specialization raises the direct damage output of both your fire and shadow line of spells. Your warlock can do incredible amounts of damage and destruction, but the downside is that you’ll suffer lower survivability. The Destruction talent tree is better utilized later in the game, because it is difficult to stay alive long enough to make use of it effectively during lower levels. It requires a lot of soul shards, isn’t mana efficient, and is difficult to use for those who want to play solo.
