Bryan Ellis on the Explosion In Virtual Real Estate Investing
Bryan Ellis is widely recognized as a expert in the fields of real estate investing and internet marketing, so it's no wonder he's regarded as a founding thinker of the new phenomenon of Virtual Real Estate Investing. I recently spoke with him about this topic:
Landlords, rehabbers and foreclosure investors, take notice - you may soon be focused on the new concepts of Virtual Real Estate Investing. Everything from using the internet as an avenue to make more money in real estate to online games such as SecondLife seem to be included in the popular definition of this term. And the pure financial potential is staggering.
In order to figure out the truth of the matter, I sought out Bryan Ellis whose experience in the fledgling industry is truly impressive.
"I began using the term ‘virtual real estate investing’ in the late 1990’s when I realized the clear similiarities in profit strategies, regardless of whether the real estate in question is 'virtual' or 'physical'" said Ellis.
One example of the parallels between virtual and physical real estate Bryan Ellis cites is the similarity between the monetization of domain names versus physical property. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property: "those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc. It’s not even necessary to own a website in order to profit from it."
Bryan Ellis points to the example of websites like HubPages, Squidoo, Google Knol, etc. "Each of these services allows any person to write an article or create other type of content, and then allows the author to share in the revenue generated on that page. It’s almost as if you’re renting retail space in a highly desirable shopping district, only you get the benefit of a ‘great address’ in the form of a well-known domain host like Google.com but without paying a single penny in rental fees. It's a win-win scenario."
I must admit: Its easy to see the parallels. For example, if you’re the owner of a desirable property, its desirability is (in a business context) largely due to its being in a location that is of interest to others. Similarly, ownership of a desirable domain name is valuable for the same reasons. Regardless of the type of asset, you can sell or lease or use any number of strategies to turn the assets into cash.
In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing, Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.

CD DVD Disc Repair Machines
A lot of us by now have collected very big libraries of DVDs, game discs and CDs. As these collections age questions of maintenance and recovery from scratch damage arise.
Many scratched DVD discs or other discs can simply be replaced at minimal cost and this holds true for CDs and game discs as well.
You can't say the same about scratched discs that are of home videos and personal digital photos written to discs. Also you may possess scratched games discs, scratched DVDs or scratched CDs that you can't buy any more.
The simple solution is to always make copies as a backup of those discs as soon as you buy them and before they get used and abused, but often we overlook this until it is too late!
So what do you do to recover the data from a scratched CD DVD or game disc?
There are three main alternatives to deal with this problem.
The first and safest method is by using a software solution to the problem.
There are a number of specialist software products available that have DVD error correction capabilities built-in or have been specifically designed for this purpose.
The level of success in this case depends heavily on the nature of the scratch damage to the disc in question but this is by far the most desirable method as it is "non-intrusive." Win or lose with this method the scratched disc is exactly the same as it was when you began.
Your second choice is to attempt to repair the CD DVD scratches by hand yourself.
There are many "do it yourself" websites and on-line videos that will show you how to use home products to repair scratched DVDs. You can use Brasso, Pledge, car polish and even toothpaste!
Of course the danger here is getting it wrong! Most likely you made things worse than when you began! Naturally if you succeed... you look great!
I look at it this way: If you are the kind of person who can read instructions and follow them TO THE LETTER to get the desired result and also "conceptually" understand WHY it is done that way then you should be fine.
Even the slightest reservation means this is not how you should go!
The final method of handling CD and DVD scratch repair is by using a CD DVD scratch repair machine.
If the first method of using software or the second method of trying to do it yourself manually have failed then this is your last shot!
This subject isn't as straightforward as it seems. CD DVD scratch repair devices must perform a pretty difficult job. All of them are attempting the re-surfacing of a polycarbonate surface well enough for a laser light to go through undisturbed.
There are lots of inexpensive CD DVD disc repair machines available thet really are a waste of your time and your money.
There are three tiers of machine separated by price range and the truth is that you get what you pay for.
This does not mean that the home user needs to spend $2000 to get a good machine, but it does mean that if you think you can get one for $20 and have it work flawlessly… you are dreaming!
By far the most effective CD DVD disc repair machines for the home user come in at just over the $120 mark and for that price you can get a very good machine that will handle your discs well.

How To make Money From iPhone Applications
Do you know that you do not need to be a computer geek or genius to create create an iPhone apps and make money? In fact, a 9 year old boy from Singapore just did that and has sold over 4,000 downloads of his "Doodle Kids" game.
Here's another one...
How did Steve Demeter make almost $250,000 in profits in just a few weeks?
Easy.
He created "Trism" - a remarkably inventive puzzle game app that appeal to a general audience. His app is entertaining, clean and unobtrusive.
It was that simple idea that skyrocketed him to the top of the iPhone app success list.
His team? Himself, mainly, with a little bit of help from a friend and a contracted designer (whom he paid only $500.)
For the average person who want to know how to make money with iphone apps, the process is strategic, intentional, and straight forward. Here are some ideas to help you get started.
Simplicity
Develop an app that is simple, practical, and small in size. The smaller the app file, the faster it will run and the more enticing it is to potential buyers. If the app file is too big, some potential buyers might not have room for it on their iPhone, causing fewer people to buy it, and you might not make as much money with your iPhone app.
Avoid letting extra features sneak into your app if possible. If they are important, save them, and after the initial release of your app, release a premium version with the extra features. This will allow you to sell the simpler release (for those who need a smaller app), but also have a more extensive app that you can charge more for.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and create an app that people can use over and over again.
Submit your app to the Apple Web App Directory
Apple’s Web app directory is the premiere listing of the newest and lastest applications. You won’t find much traffic on other directories, so you should submit to the Apple web directory. Once you submit, wait for Apple to review your app. This review is merely to see if your iPhone application is usable and functions correctly.
Once Apple reviews your app – which takes about a day – they’ll put your app at the top of their chronological list. You’ll get a lot of hits for the first few days because of your app’s place at the top of the directory list. This is the most crucial part of your total revenue because it’s when your app will be seen the most and you will make the most money with iPhone apps.
Resubmit your App
Apple will relist your app at the top of the directory if you resubmit your app with revisions. Fill out a resubmission form and fill out the “What’s New†section. Even if your revisions are small and simple, you should still resubmit your product. This will help increase visibility, placing you at the top of the directory list once again.
Always resubmit your app on a Thursday or Friday. Apple doesn’t list apps during weekends, so the ones listed on Thursday and Friday stay at the top of the list the longest.
All of these steps WILL help your iPhone app gain exposure and buyers, but they don’t guarantee the success of your product. You MUST have a compelling, concise, practical, and efficient app. If your app fits this mold and you follow these steps, you will have success. The key is coming up with a good idea, but the trick is showing your app to the world once it is created. If you can do this, you will make money with your iPhone apps.
