Five Things You Need To Know To Become A Successful Massage Therapist

by Lena Hellsten

It is great to be a massage therapist and to be able to give the gift of peace, relaxation and healing to other people on a regular basis. To become successful as a massage therapist it is important to know the different aspects that will make sure that your clients will not only come back to you but also find their way to you in the first place.

-The importance of creating an environment of relaxation and calmness where youre giving the massages. This is essential for your success, to have a room thats set up in a way that invites the client to get into the state thats supporting a good massage experience. Make sure that the lighting is dimmed and not to bright, maybe have a few candles lit. And if you have pictures on the walls, make sure they are of a kind that represents a relaxed state of mind for most people.

-When you meet the client you want to invite them into a state of comfort. The small-talk before the massage is something that usually helps people loosen up and become more relaxed. This is also the time where you can direct the conversation in a way that is positive and joyful and that makes them feel relaxed in your company.

-To be relaxed yourself - Take time to really bring yourself into the state in which you want your client to be and you will find that your client can go deep into relaxation much easier. If youre stressed and worried your client will sense this, normally at an unconscious level and might not be able to benefit as much from the massage. Take some time to center yourself, focus on your breath and relax before your begin the massage.

-Marketing. This is essential if you want to be sure that people find their way to you and it is something that a lot of massage therapists do not learn about when theyre being taught to give massages. Without proper marketing you either dont get as much clients as you could or you will end up spending a lot of extra money on campaigns that dont generate.

-My last point is perhaps the most important aspect and it is to trust yourself and your ability. When you know that you are doing your best and that you are an amazing massage therapist, there will be a confidence and calmness within you. Your clients will sense this and respond in a more positive way to your treatments. Give yourself lots of encouragement and positive comments. You truly can do it and what you have to give is valuable!
