Walking Canes and recovery
I cant believe that it has been 4 years since I damaged my knee while playing soccer. I have had to use a walking cane ever since. I went to the doctor the other day and he took some x-rays that showed a minor bone dislocation that is not healing. I have had to use my walking cane to get around ever since the accident.
Readjusting to life soon after that was a bit difficult, but I managed to overcome it. Just recently, I have been able to play soccer again. I still have to take it easy on my leg though. I guess I'm not as good as I use to be, but I can still manage to get a good game in. I like to play my nephews here and there, but the inability to live life the way I use to still bothers me.
Last night I realized just how lucky I was to still be able to walk after the injury. Even if I had to possibly use a walking cane for the rest of my life. As I was walking 20 steps up the flight of stairs to my apartment, I had slipped and almost tumbled all the way down. Luckily, out of instinct, I used the handle part of my walking cane to cling onto one of the brackets supporting the railing.
My neighbor just happened to be standing near by and offered to give me a hand. What a relief it is to have him living so close. I dont know what I would do without him. He is such a huge help. I am going to have to do something special for him.
The following morning I made sure to stop by my neighbor's and thank him for all the help. He offered to stop by and see how I was doing, he is such a nice guy. He stopped by with a snack later that day.
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful family. They still love me even though I always worry them. I swear I have been to the hospital like six times this year alone. I was born with two left feet and trust me they are constantly trying to go left.
