What You Should Know About a Wedding

by Louis Soul

A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union between two people. Despite the religious perspective to describe a marriage, it is still a legal matter and documents must be signed before the law recognizes that a couple is married.

A woman taking part in the ceremony is called a bride, a man called a bridegroom, after the ceremony they become a wife and a husband, respectively. Of course other wedding traditions can be much more complicated as soon as you look into different race, social classes and ethnic groups to name a few.

Traditionally the church wedding is the most popular where the ceremony is presided over by a Christian priest. White weddings may be quite normal for those of us that live in the United States, UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth but they are not always accepted worldwide amongst Christian faiths.

A different type of wedding which can be difficult to arrange is a wedding where two couple are married simultaneously, often called a double wedding. This type of wedding ceremony is often organized by a person that has a sibling that wants to get married at the same time.

Nowadays as the world shrinks it is much easier for couples to arrange a wedding in another country and have the guests travel to them with the honeymoon continuing without any further travel. Whether this happens for an intimate beach ceremony in the Caribbean, extravagant nuptials in Las Vegas or for a simple ceremony in someone’s back yard, chances are it qualifies as a destination wedding.

Two day weddings or weekend weddings are a great way to extend the ceremony and festivities as an increasing number of people are finding out. Other weddings come under the term of either themed or special activity weddings which usually take place over a weekend period. Accommodation for these weddings is normally arranged at the place the wedding is going to take place and the other events are being held.

Although unusual, you can even get married online and it will resemble a normal wedding or you can have characters of yourselves get married. Planning is made easy, with online wedding guides where reliable and friendly vendors are listed. Strangely, if you decide to have a wedding shown online in real time it is called an internet wedding.

Civil weddings have to be carried out by a local justice of the peace, judge, Civil wedding ceremonies may use references to God, but generally they do not make references to a particular religion or denomination. Often, this type of service will take place in a judge’s chambers, town or city hall or any other specially designated place.

The information provided here is mainly about weddings and marriage in the Western world primarily based on and around Christian beliefs.
