Why Should You Take Fido to the Vet?

by Sharon J. Fisk

They say after time you begin to look like your loved one. We have all seen this. The guy with a slightly robust build that has jowls mimicking that of his Basset or the Shih Tzu owner that unknowingly sports the "puppy cut". The best thing about this, is that not just the four legged ball of energy is happy, but the owner is happy, too. It is as though it is just some kind of genetic physicality passed on--like two long lost identical twin brothers. Happy to be similar and cozy with one another.

Fido and Fifi are the perfect reasons to go for a walk, play fetch for hours, and relieve stress. As they are the perfect addition to any family, it is important to keep them happy and healthy, like any of your children. Sure we all listen to them when they want something - it is apparent to us when they are speaking, but can you figure out when they are telling you something is wrong? When they have an infection, illness or disease? Most of us cannot and that is why we have Vets.

Rex may not be a fan. Just like your kid, he may not want his temperature taken or his vaccinations, but it is essential to keeping him healthy. A thorough physical and Q and A session can help your well trained vet establish if there are any medical conditions you might be unaware of, this is why the yearly exam is so important.

Extreme changes in your loved one are the other reason to go to the vet. Changes in stool, urine, sleep/lethargy, and eating patterns may indicate a medical problem and the sooner it gets attention the better. Vets can provide you with several options so you never have to feel like you cannot provide for your pet.

Your four legged companion deserves the best life possible.
