Gallon Aquarium – Which Type?
Gallon aquariums are today available in a number of different shapes and sizes. Some are only capable of holding 5 gallons of water, whilst others can hold up to and even more than 200 gallons of water. What you do need to do before you buy a gallon aquarium, is that you learn first about caring for the fish, and marine life, including that which makes up a reef (coral), to ensure that they thrive.
When devising the budget for buying any size of gallon aquarium, you need to factor in the cost of the other equipment needed to set it up, in order to create the perfect freshwater or saltwater environment for the aquatic life residing in it. So, before you buy, it is a good idea to understand even just the basics to owning an aquarium, as this will help you to decide just which is the right kind of gallon aquarium for you.
Gallon Aquarium – The Kinds You Can Get
When it comes to purchasing any size of gallon aquarium, you can either purchase one that is made from glass, or one that is made from acrylic. Each come with their own pros and cons, and below we look at what some of these are. First off, let us take a look at those gallon aquariums made from glass.
1. Glass gallon aquariums are considerably cheaper to buy than those which are made from acrylic. 2. No matter what size a glass made gallon aquarium is, they are much more resilient than an acrylic one, and less prone to being scratched. 3. One major disadvantage of one made from glass, is that they are much heavier and bulkier, and this is because the frame surrounding them, needs to be strong in order to hold the weight of glass.
Now let us take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of having an acrylic gallon aquarium.
1. The acrylic gallon aquariums often don’t have a frame surrounding them, rather the edges are sealed together making them look not only neater, but also these seals are far stronger than you find on glass versions. 2. The biggest advantage of owning an acrylic gallon aquarium, is that they weigh considerably less than glass ones, but don’t forget to be careful when cleaning them as they can become scratched very easily. 3. You can get both glass and acrylic gallon aquariums in a number of different shapes and sizes but because of the way they are constructed, acrylic ones can be made into some unusual shapes. This means you have an even wider selection of shapes and styles to select from.
Another Thing To Consider Before You Buy A Gallon Aquarium
No matter what size of gallon aquarium you purchase, you also need to make sure that you purchase a stand which can carry the weight of the tank fully laden. The weight of a gallon aquarium increases substantially, once the water, equipment and marine life are put into them. If the stand cannot handle this weight, the chances of the gallon aquarium becoming damaged increases also.
