Reach Those High Notes With Ease!

Everyone has tried singing in the shower at one time or another, but what exactly happens when the high note is attempted? Maybe you squeak or sound tinny that somehow forces the high pitch into an unearthly falsetto sound that scares the neighbors? It's true that most people have not experienced voice lessons so that they know what exactly to do if they have to reach some high pitches.

People treat their voices badly everyday with shouting, constantly clearing the throat, coughing loudly, smoking, and yelling. Imagine if you constantly mistreat your voice in this manner day after day. With the limited range of vocal expression that most people use, this can prove very detrimental or harmful to the human voice. A good singer needs to avoid this kind of treatment of their voice, so they must seek the advice of an experienced professional.

If you want to take yourself seriously, make sure that you rest your voice so that it is not overused and become raspy sounding. Speaking with your voice too much will also create problems, so as a singer protect your voice by not using until absolutely necessary. When you use good breath support the correct way, you will find that you will be able to attain those high notes with ease.

When you train with correct breathing it becomes the most important part of singing. Talking involves breathing, swimming, running; anything that makes you use your lungs to allow air to be recycled needs to be practiced. If you are not breathing properly you cannot allow your voice to react in a way that will allow you to sing higher.

We talked about falsetto, which is not using your lungs. Instead it is using your neck and throat muscles which are the muscles are not designed for singing. You must practice breathing in order to relax yourself so you can comfortably reach the higher notes. For example, Lamaze teaches breathing techniques for expectant mothers,as its practice is used to help them feel more comfortable and at ease.

Try to sing with scales on a piano or chords on a guitar to see if you can sing higher each time. If that's not possible have someone play flute, clarinet, or saxophone which will also be helpful. A great software tool you can install on your computer is Sing and See software where you will get a visual feedback of your singing, including how high you sing. It's wonderful for an independent student training on his or her own.

During one of your practice sessions, start recording your voice singing. Sometimes singers cannot tell if they are doing anything wrong unless they record their voice while they sing. You can detect diction errors, intonation, improvements in you range, and much more. It's a great way to help you enhance your training as a singer.

After you record yourself singing, you can start singing along with the recording. Note if you can do it easily and if you have made any improvements in matching your voice. Try singing in harmony and the melody with your recorded voice. You will notice if your range has extended from before and if you have room for more vocal expansion.
