Will Low Carb Diets Work?

by Debbie Johnson

There are many types of diets and many fallacies about losing weight that circulate. You have to be careful though, low or no carb diets are not that safe to follow, initially you will lose some weight, but because carbs are so vital to your health, restricting your body of them cannot be a good idea.

Carbs are one of your body's best friends. Your system needs the complex carbs to sustain itself properly.

Carbohydrates Are Not All The Same

Let's get down to which carbohydrates we are talking about. Carbohydrates found in vegetables, fresh fruit and whole grains are called complex carbohydrates. These are the carbohydrates we need to stay healthy and helps us to shed weight.

Your body depends on these complex carbs for energy, to last you throughout the day. When you decrease carbs you're actually withholding your body of energy it needs to function normally. Just your brain needs at least fifty grams of carbohydrates a day to be able to think and process what's going on.

These complex carbs are digested much slower than the simple carbohydrates. This is important to know because our body's metabolism is naturally boosted from this. Whenever our metabolism is running at peak efficiency, we have more sustainable energy that also processes and burns calories faster.

If there are some misunderstandings about low carb diets, it's primarily the carbohydrates that we get through the processed varieties of foods. Processed sugar, corn syrups, white breads, pasta, etc. These are the type of carbs everyone needs to cut down on eating in order to lose weight and get healthier.

Simple carbs found in potato chips, processed snacks, sweets and factory processed starchy foods will add weight on your scale. They are quickly turned into fat cells as they are already processed and very difficult to get rid of.

Good Carbs against Bad Carbs

You would need to replace simple carbs with complex carbs, then you automatically have a safe, sensible, low carb diet and you will shed pounds.

Simple changes can make a huge difference for example: buy brown rice instead of white, buy whole grain bread instead of white breads, choose whole grain breakfast cereals instead of "Fruit Loops", and buy fresh fruits and vegetables instead of canned.

Remember, when food is already processed the complex carbs that you need, have been removed. Whatever you choose try to make choices that are as close to their natural state as possible.

Yes, you will lose weight on a low carb diet, but it will leave your body without the fuel it needs to function properly, this is a high price to pay for your health.

By cutting out simple carbs and replacing them with complex carbs you will feel energized and lose weight, so all in all, you will look and feel great.
