Looking Forward to Tomorrow

Tomorrow at work (in a few hours from now) I will have a nice, relaxing day.  You see, once per month, we get a new shipment of stock in at our parts shop.  So, we will be unloading and stocking the shelves all day.

What makes the day unique is that we have parts for both regular vehicles as well as heavy duty vehicles such as front end loaders as well.  The diverse number of parts, makes the day much like Christmas, where we are surprised with what we get to unload and stock out.

Last time, the big surprise was the Skid steer buckets that we had never carried before.  There were also some other car seat covers, as well as some custom hubcaps that we started carrying as well.

With the variety of products and the new products that we receive on a regular basis, I can never complain that my work is boring.

An Easy Bake Start

One of my favorite things to do in life is to different sweets and goodies for other people to try.  One of the first gifts I ever remember receiving was an easy bake oven and that brought out in me, a desire to bake sweets and goodies for other people to try. I loved getting their feedback on my different recipes.

When I grew up I knew that I had to do something that involved baking.  I decided that I would start my own catering company so that I could cook all the time.  I love trying out new recipes and I love hearing how wonderful people think my food is.

My absolute favorite thing about my business is doing Christmas party catering.  Aside from preparing the entrée and the meal preparations, I get to bake a lot of cookies and different sweets for the people to enjoy.  It truly is the most beautiful time of the year.

Summary of a Typical Student Year

Having attended college for a number of years now, I think I have figured out a pattern in terms of the work that we are assigned.  Though the pattern is revealing, by knowing it is there I do not get any explicit advantage at all.

If you want to sum up my "research", a student's life can be summed up as the following:
1. Write up research proposal.
2. Create thesis.
3. Write a dissertation.

Basically, if you follow the pattern that I found, each year you basically just rinse and repeat it.  If you were told that this is what you had to expect your life to be once you were college, I think many people wouldn't bother attending as it turns out to be pretty boring.

I know some of you argue that this pattern is simplistic, but I feel that it gives a good representation of what my experience has been in college.

My Dream Come True

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted nothing more than to be a mother. I had such an imagination when I was young and I was a mother to all of my baby dolls and even some of my cats. It was my dream to grow up, get married and start a family. Even as a teenager, I was jealous when someone had a baby. I secretly wished that the baby were my own.

When I got married, I knew that I would want to have a family right away. We were pregnant only a couple of months after the wedding and I enjoyed every second of it. That is, until I lost it. I was devastated. I never considered that this could happen to me. It was something that happened to other people, but not to me, because I wanted to be a mom so badly.

After two more miscarriages, I finally had a successful pregnancy. I even managed to go two weeks past my due date. The first time I held my daughter, I realized what an absolute miracle she was. Motherhood was everything that I had imagined it would be, and more. I was absolutely meant to be a mom. More than that, I was absolutely meant to be Erika’s mom.

Looking for Compensation

A good friend of mine was recently hit by a semi-truck driver.  They were at fault and the amount that the insurance company was willing to offer was an insult.

I suggested that she go talk to a truck accident lawyer and see what they would suggest.  I thought that if she didn't feel that she was getting the compensation that she deserved, she should talk to someone and see what her options are.

She has an appointment on Thursday, so we will have to see how it goes.

Teaching and Learning at the Same Time

This term in college has been a little bit different for me.  Instead of just doing the coursework, I made a decision early on in the term to help my peers if the opportunity presented itself.

I thought that even though college was a place to learn, it could also be a place to share those skills that you're good at with someone that needed some help.  For me, I have been very good at essay writing all of my life and that has resulted in very high marks in classes that require a lot of writing.

The college has a writing center that helps students who are having difficulty with their essays where we proofread them and make suggestions on how the writing can be improved.  I decided that I should volunteer there a couple times per week and help all those that have problems with writing.

Not only has been a great learning experience for me, but it is taught me that sharing one's expertise is one of the greater things that you can do in life.

Getting Ready for a Business Trip

It seems like it hasn't been very long since my last business trip, but it is time to go on another one again.  This time, I will be going to Toronto for a marketing conference for the week, and it looks like it should be pretty interesting.

I ended up needing some new luggage as my old set was falling apart.  It could be that it was time to replace them anyway as they were looking a little dated since they were from the early nineties.

The new set I bought is a lot nicer and better quality than the old set.  I just hope that they last as long.

Anyway, I need to get back to packing, so I will have to blog a little bit later.

All the Help I Need

While I was working on my psychology essay this past term, I was running into some difficulties in trying to get the wording and the formatting just right.  I asked some of my friends for suggestions but none of them really seem good at writing essays anyway.

I decided to take advantage of the essay assistance program on campus and had an A student go over my essay with a fine toothed comb.  He showed me some great things I could do to make a difference and come up with an amazing essay as opposed to mediocre one that I had written.

Even though I had considered to go to one of those buy essay websites, I think I took the right route by getting the help I needed to make my okay as a great one.

Cleaning the House

Spring is here, and I decided that it was time to clean the house.  I had one room in particular that was a big mass - my office.

You see, I haven't really cleaned it out for the past three years, and there are piles of papers everywhere.  It was about time that I did something as I needed the room to work on my new project.

While going through the mess, I came across some term papers I did while in college.  Most of them were pretty horrible, but there was one termpaper that I had done really well on.  It was about global warming.

I kept a good essay and throughout the rest of the research papers.  In the end, the room did not too bad at all - I should've done it sooner.

Opening a Store Online

I am new to the whole notion of putting your shop online, but with the recommendation of my web consulting firm, I think I will give it a try.  It will allow my business to reach clients outside of the area that my brick-and-mortar store services, and for the small investment that it will take to setup the site, I should be able to make a tidy profit (at least from what I am told).

So, I have been relying on them to help me setup my online shopping cart and getting the site designed.  It made a lot more sense for me to outsource the project than doing it myself as I am in no way a computer programmer.

They asked me if I had any preferences over using a c# shopping cart or something else, but I told them just go with what would work best for the project.

So, they were able to show me the aspdotnetstorefront demo that would be what my site and backend will look like when the store is complete.  I can't wait to see the final product, though I am told that I will have to wait one week before the final design is complete.
