Putting Tile in the Kitchen

It seems that no matter what you do, once you start renovating your home, there is no turning back.  We have tackled the bathroom and that is finally complete, but there is a new eyesore in our home - the kitchen.

When I look at the floor, all I see is the nasty linoleum that we have had for too many years.  When you are told by your grandmother who can't see very well that your floor is ugly, you know it is time for it to go.

We recently bought a DirectBuy membership and went down to their showroom - and boy were we impressed.  We were also floored (no pun intended) by the prices.

Sure, my wife and I have to come to some sort of consensus about what kind of tile we are going to buy, but it feels good being one step closer to seeing that linoleum go.

The Mount Doesn’t Fit My Plasma

I recently purchased a plasma television to put on the wall of our home theater room.  Originally, we had planned to put the plasma TV on the mantle of the fireplace, but when we took it home, the feet on the stand were too big for the mantle.

So, we had the bright idea of putting the television on the wall.  I had sent my wife to buy a plasma TV mount.

But, when we got it out of the box, she ended up picking up the wrong size for our television.  So, I guess I will have to go back to the store tomorrow to get the right one.  It will be just in time for our Friday night movie night.

Getting More Life Out Of My Treadmill

I have had a treadmill for about three years now and it has functioned perfectly without problems.  But lately I have been wondering if I shouldn't be performing some sort of maintenance on it, not unlike a car.  Since it is mechanical, you would think it might need some extra care, right?

Well, I didn't know anywhere else to go except for the fitness equipment store where I purchased the treadmill.  The sales clerk was happy to show me a treadmill tune up kit that would make my treadmill quieter (one of my complaints) and extend the life of it.

It was a small price to pay for keeping my health and treadmill running smoothly.

Surfing Safely on the Internet

I have been concerned for a long time about my privacy online.  You hear so many stories on the news each week about identity theft, and the financial losses associated with it.  Instead of being a victim, I figured if I were to be proactive about it, I could protect myself from any chance of becoming another victim.

So, what I decided to do was check out some of the Internet privacy security software on the market.  I really had no idea that there would be so many options available to me from so many companies - it is a larger market than I would have imagined.

I ended up purchasing some anonymizer software and privacy controls software to ensure that I would be protected while online.  I made sure to read as many reviews as possible and pick the highest rated products.

Needless to say, I feel a lot safer surfing on the Internet now.

I am a Writer

I have always been good at writing term papers. I like to write and this is always something that came very easy to me. I remember writing book reports in elementary school and taking great care and attention to making them perfect. I always received top marks and it was no different when I entered high school. For writing, the grade just came easy to me.

I even enjoyed doing research papers for my high school biology and chemistry classes. It was a different type of writing, but it was writing just the same. I did well on these papers, but it required a lot more effort on my part to get the good grades. Research was something I liked doing, though, as the library was one of my favorite places in the whole world.

I remember the day that my English teacher read my “To Kill A Mockingbird” Essay out loud to the class. She mentioned to me that she did not know if she would have done as good of a job as I had and this made me feel so proud of my abilities. I knew I would have to have a career doing some type of writing one day, and I did.

Ready For Retirement

I am a big fan of Michael Dinich and have been for a very long time. I think that he is a very smart man and what he teaches is crucial for anyone who wants to be successful even in retirement. This essentially means that everyone on the planet should pay attention to his teachings.

I absolutely love the website Your Money Matters. In fact, I have it bookmarked as one of my favorites and I visit it every single day. It is as important, if not more, than it is for me to go and check my emails. I have learned so much from this site and I really think that I am ready for retirement when the time comes.

One of the best things about the site is the daily article feature. I have received a wealth of information by reading these and I will always be thankful that I found this site. It has changed my life, as I am sure it has to nearly everyone who has visited it.

Flower Child

Only two weeks ago, I became the mother of a very beautiful baby girl. She is the most perfect thing that I have ever seen and I am madly in love with her. She makes me want to be a good person and I already have such big hopes and dreams for her. Although, she makes my life so perfect, my stay at the hospital was definitely less than perfect.

By the second day, they were still feeding me soup broth and tea and I was absolutely starving. My husband had to actually go and talk to someone about giving me something to eat, so I would have the energy to nurse my baby. It seems as though they had just forgot to change me to a normal diet. Even then, the food was awful and the nurses were cranky.

My in-laws brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The hospital shuns all fragrances, but instead of asking my husband to take the flowers home where we could enjoy them, they came into my room and took the flowers away to the trash. I was furious. I am now at home and am able to enjoy my little girl a lot more than I was there. Thank goodness.

Student Creativity Is Gone

I was reading through a bunch of admission essays the other night, as this is part of my job. I must say that I was getting extremely bored. It seems like no one has any creativity anymore and as I was reading, it seemed as though everyone was just droning on about the same things. I was really bored.

Every once in awhile, there was an application essay that was an enjoyable read. These were, however, very few and far between. These ones, I had to set off to the side and make sure that I wrote a good recommendation for them. At least the writing did not threaten to put me into a deep slumber.

We have a new thing this year at the college, where the student can submit an online essay, rather than sending one in. I am so thankful that I do not have to read these ones, as having to sit at the computer, bored out of my mind, would be way worse than sitting in my cozy recliner, bored out of my mind.

Replacing Some Of My Home Office Furniture

I had the bright idea yesterday that I should move my office upstairs.  You see, my office has been in the living room in our home for months now and the home office furniture has been taking up too much space (according to my wife).

So, she had asked me rather politely to move my office furniture upstairs.  Things were going rather smoothly until I decided that I could move my desk up the stairs - instead it broke.  When I am talking broken, I mean, irreparable.  After trying for half an hour to get it to stand again, I gave up.

I finished moving the office chairs upstairs and then I headed to our local office supply store in search of some replacements.  I did manage to find a new desk, but I will have to wait a couple of days for them to deliver it to my house.

In the meantime, I will have to use the kitchen table for my work - my wife is not pleased with me.

Comparing Insurance Prices for My New Car

I am looking for a car insurance quote for the new car that I will be purchasing in the next few weeks. I wanted to find something that was affordable and something that was reliable. I wanted full coverage, so I would not have to worry about anything. I am a good driver, but one can never be too prepared.

I called the company that I was presently dealing with and asked them for an auto insurance quote on a new car. It was going to be substantially higher than what I was paying right now, but I did expect this, with driving a new vehicle. I was, however, a little bit shocked at just how much higher it was going to be.

I decided that I would call a few other companies and compare insurance quotes. I found one company that was a lot cheaper than what I was being offered with my old company. They did have the full coverage, so I decided that I would use them. Now, all I have to do is go out and buy my car.
