Almost the Real Thing
I have a buddy that works in a local watch store. He is what I would call an expert - he can spot replica watches from miles away. I find it amazing that he has such an eye for detail that he can see the subtle differences that set watch replicas apart from the originals.
Just because he is an expert, doesn’t mean I can’t test him, right?
Well that is my philosophy anyway. I went online last week to find some replicas with which I could test his skill - and I ordered just one. I knew that this would be the perfect test - according to the website, you couldn’t tell that it was a Rolex replica watch.
So, the big day came when I presented him with my watch and asked him what he thought. I made up some story about picking it up at a pawn shop, and that it looked really valuable, so I thought that it was a good deal.
Now, I bet you are wondering if he could tell it was a fake, right?
Well…. I was busted again! His keen eye was able to tell - though it took him a couple of minutes to come to that conclusion. He did mention that it was one of the better replicas that he had ever seen, so much so that he thought it was almost the real thing.
