Technology Helps the Fight Against Fraud

As you know, fraud is a continuous problem for all of us.  Whether it is something as simple as losing your cell phone, to losing your credit card, the price of the fraudulent use of your property can be very expensive.  Thankfully, there is new technology designed to combat the fraud - take a look.

Do you have a mobile phone?  If your carrier is a GSM you have a SIM (subscriber identity module) in your phone.  This card has your account information and associates the phone to you.  There are SIM applications that have been designed that can help you in case your phone is stolen by locking the phone.  If you did notice that your phone was stolen, a quick phone call to your carrier can ensure that no one can use your phone to make phone calls.

There have also been advances in payment methods as well.  Many banks and financial institutions have been taking advantage of new card encoding techniques that can turn your old bank card into a new smart card.  These cards have embedded chips which help financial institutions reduce the amount of fraud they experience.

Smart cards can also benefit the online shopper.  You can purchase chip card readers that attach to your computer that can read any smart cards you may carry.  You no longer have to worry about a watchful eye stealing your credit card number - instead, you can conduct your business in the most secure method available today.

It is nice to see that there is a big movement towards reducing fraud through technology.  Though there have been big advances in the battle against fraud, there are still battles to be fought.  It will be interesting to see what new technologies will be implemented to combat therm - I will take a look at them in a future article.
