Diabetes in Children Affects a Family’s Finances
We have a family friend that their oldest son was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Now this was a shock to them as diabetes does not run in either of their families. They had to be careful what their son ate and had to make sure that he understood his condition as well.
But perhaps the biggest change for them was the financial strain the disease imposed on their family. Unfortunately for them, their Medicare health insurance wasn't adequate enough to cover their costs for Insulin, and his testing supplies.
Thankfully, they had taken out some Medicare supplement insurance about a year before he was diagnosed, and that helped out a bit with his expenses. But they still found that they were struggling to keep up with the expenses to keep his diabetes under control.
Thankfully, relief came to them in the mail. They received a flyer in the mail for an offer for free diabetic supplies with a simple application for them to fill out online. They tried it out, and now they get some supplies free each month. They have gone from struggling financially, do doing okay now.
