Helping Kids Learn
It is a funny thing how knowledge is passed down generation to generation, but in this last generation we have been coming up short. With the increase in pace of our lives, there has been a rapid decrease in the level of education that students are getting in schools.
The problem starts right at the beginning with a lack of parent involvement in education and learning. You have parents not taking the time to teach their children the basic skills they need to start life. Simple things like reading a story to them at night is now passed by in favor of video games and television. Why? Because the alternative are less work.
The problem continues into school. If you are lucky, some parents volunteer in elementary school, but what about high school? College? The lack of parent involvement in schools has reduced the number of field trips - and even when they have them, sometimes they have to be canceled. In most schools, fun nights are a thing of the past, and even band trips are now threatened. Without parent involvement, none of these extra curricular activities - a great source of learning - can happen.
Parents, change your ways and make time to get involved in your child’s life. Begin with something simple, but be consistent. The reward? You’ll see the differences as you watch your child learn, live and grow.
