My Grandma on the Internet

I can remember the stories that my grandmother told me as a child about living in a house with no running water, wood heat, and not owning a car.  This is radically different than the way I live my life.  You see, as I grew up, she taught me a lot of things and we were very close.  Seems it was my destiny to grow up and show her a few things too.

My grandma came over on a Sunday afternoon for coffee.  As we were sitting down and discussing what was happening in our lives, I mentioned that I was making websites for a living.  Always interested in what I am doing, she asked if she could see them.

I sat her down at the computer to show her how to use the Internet.  I explained that it was a great tool, not unlike going to a big library or a store to find things that you are interested in.

After an hour of so of looking at my websites, I decided to show her other things that she could do online.  She has been looking at getting a car, but was in need of some financing, so I suggested that we could compare loans online and get a quote in an instant.  She seemed excited to try it out, and we proceeded to fill out the application online.

We even got to try out the help capabilities of the internet: while looking for a loan for her car, we came up with two terms that we didn’t understand the difference: personal loan and a secured personal loan.  I showed her what websites she could use to find out the answers she needed.

She left later after we had some time to talk about her experience.  I took her home and she couldn’t stop talking about the Internet and computers.  I think I may have found a good Christmas present for her :)
