My Dog Ruined my Favorite Couch…
Ever since I moved out of my parents house, I have had this super comfy couch that I picked up at a yard sale for twenty bucks. Even though I have purchased new furniture, it is hard to let my couch set go as it still reigns king in my house for comfort.
That is, until I brought my dog home.
You see, I had this great idea to buy a puppy for my kids. I thought it would teach them a little responsibility as well as get them accustomed to animals. The first week was great, the kids and the puppy were getting along great. We went over to my parents house for supper and left the puppy at home. When we got home, I went downstairs to sit on my couch in the rumpus room to watch a movie and to my horror I witnessed a terrible thing:
My couch was ripped to shreds.
Angry. I was so angry.
After a cool off period I realized it was time for some dog behavior training. You see, the dog really wasn’t much different than my kids - you need to teach them the difference between right and wrong so that they can make good choices in life.
I just had one problem: I am not a dog trainer.
So off I went to the library down the street in hopes of finding some dog training books to help me get started. I did manage to find a few useful books and took them home for reading later that night.
I did manage to find some invaluable dog obedience tips such as using food and affection as a reward system while training your dog. I will have to let you all know how it went in a later article. Till then, wish me good luck!
