My Trip to an Electronics Seminar for Work

Many of you know that I am an electronics sales person by trade: I sell computers, televisions, and phones at a local retailer in my town.  I have been doing this for the better part of ten years (I needed a change of pace once or twice in that time) and I would like to think that I am a master of my art of selling electronics.

That being said, there are always new technologies rolling out onto the market, and I need to stay on top of this newer technology.  I read a lot of magazines, check out websites, and go to electronics seminars on a regular basis.  These are company sponsored and are a yearly event - usually we fly out one day and come back the next.

I just came back from a seminar that was held in Calgary, Alberta here in Canada.  Even though a broad range of topics were covered two topics were of great interest to me: plasma televisions and Bluetooth.

I sell a lot of plasma televisions at work.  The main reason people get into plasma displays for their televisions is their size - if you want a television that is larger than 42″ plasma is the best bang for the buck.  You can mount them on the wall out of the way and unlike projection televisions, you can sit all around them and everyone gets the same viewing experience.  The one catch with them is the reflective properties of the glass over the screen - though most newer plasma televisions come with anti-reflective coating applied to the glass.  If you do get one and need to clean it, don’t use any kind of ammonia based cleaner - rather use a damp cloth or special store bought wipes.

Bluetooth.  A technology designed so devices can talk to each other.  The possibilities of Bluetooth are endless:  wireless keyboards, headsets, short range data transfer, remotes that do not need line of sight, and even Lego robots.  According to the information presented at the seminar, they suggest that Bluetooth will become even more popular in the coming year with a lot of potential for sales of Bluetooth devices during the Christmas shopping season.

That is all I can say about this year’s seminar.  There is an upcoming video game seminar I am hoping to go to, I will keep you all updated should I get to go.
