Be as Resourceful As a Spy - Oh to be James Bond..

I can remember as a child watching James Bond movies with my father.  There was nothing cooler than getting out of a sticky situation using your belt, or being able to escape captivity with nothing more than a laser built into your watch.

After watching these movies, it seemed that my brother and I would turn anything we had into a spy gadget.  You know, a skipping rope would turn into a rappelling line, you could use a sand shovel as a walkie talkie and you always had to watch out for those balloon grenades.  It was amazing how resourceful you could be - using everyday stuff for some kind of spy tool.

But you grow up and that all changes.  Or does it?

Ok.  So my interest in being James Bond or some other “famous” spy hasn’t diminished.  In fact, I am an avid reader of Spy Review a blog dedicated to spy gadgets.  I am also still fascinated with spy gadgets and recently have spent some time looking into finding some gadget projects to do in my spare time.

You to?  Then read on.

There are some excellent spy books available for purchase that allow you to do just that - turn everyday stuff into spy devices.  Let me just highlight a couple of them that will give you good “bang” for your buck.

101 Spy Gadgets for the Evil Genius by Brad Graham and Kathy McGowan provides detailed instructions and resources for creating devices from old electronics kicking around your house.  Simple and easy to follow, they provide the background for the devices you will create as well as the designs won’t break your bank.

The other one I want to mention is The Incredible World of Spy Fi: Wild and Crazy Spy Gadgets, Props and Artifacts from TV and the Movies by Danny Beiderman.  Like I mentioned before, being an avid fan of James Bond, it is nice to see a book dedicated to the famous spy movies like James Bond, Mission Impossible, Maxwell Smart and more.  Full color pictures complement this book highlighting the history of spy movies in Hollywood.
