Time to Buy Textbooks

Now that I have been in school for a week and a bit, I guess it is time to think about buying my textbooks.  I am not one of those students that buy their textbooks before classes start, rather I like to see if we will actually be using the textbook at all.

Another consideration is that new text books are expensive.  I mean, really expensive.  When your diet consists of macaroni and cheese, there isn’t a lot of room to budget.  So, like my past few years, I am going to go look and see what I can get some used college textbooks.

There are some good benefits to used books and some bad that go with them.  First is the price.  I can usually get a gently used book for anywhere from half to two thirds of the price of a new one.  Secondly, especially for my elective classes where I am not going to keep the text after the school year, it is a good way to save some money.

The bad things you run into when shopping for used college textbooks for sale is that some of them are not in very good condition or incomplete.  For example, last year I bought an economics text book that didn’t come with the companion CD and also was highlighted throughout.  Sometimes you also run into problems finding the book you are looking for - my problem book is Business Mathematics In Canada.  Seems there are no copies to be found at my school - I will have to take my search online later.
